01About

A new class of therapy, built from the immune system up

Alessio D. Nahmad, PhD, is a scientist working at the frontier of genome editing, antibody engineering, and immune cell therapy. His research established foundational work in two areas: in vivo B cell engineering to produce broadly neutralizing antibodies — a proof of concept for a new class of "evolving drug" therapies — and CRISPR-Cas9 genome-editing safety, characterizing the aneuploidy and chromosomal truncations that arise in edited human T cells.

His works were published several times in high-impact peer-reviewed literature including multiple articles in Nature Biotechnology and Nature Communications, and he is a multiple time inventor including innovative cell therapeutics applications such as B cell engineering.

He received the ASGCT Excellence in Research Award (2021), presenting in the Presidential Symposium at the ASGCT Annual Meeting, and the ESGCT Early Career Investigator Award (2023).

A co-founder of multiple biotechnology ventures, including Tabby Therapeutics, he leads a research group at the Samueli Integrative Cancer Pioneering Institute and advises academic, industry, and non-profit partners on cell and gene therapy programs.
